This is about life in a van not van life, my rig is a 33 year old converted ambulance not a $200k modern van, no gram worthy posts flouting some unachievable lifestyle only possible by sheer luck or being a trustafarian. This site is mostly a place for photos to be hosted for family and friends and to have a placeholder for pet sitting services. I will not have ads, affiliate links, pop ups or push some dubious products. Anything offered or sold on this site is created by me, no AI, no third parties.

The cats…they are my life. They are also the most controversial thing about my life. Fellow travels will often comment about traveling with 4 cats and how unfair that is to them. Those same folks will often be towing a 16′ travel trailer with 5 kids crammed in with zero supervision throughout the day.

Background, the two elderly cats lived a vagabond lifestyle in their early lives, they loved it and showed obvious signs of depression when we came off the road. The two younger siblings are foster fails from the height of COVID and have never been on the road prior other than vet visits. The cats get fed better than me, more is spent on them monthly than myself and the rig combined, they see vet(s) regularly, they dictate the travel pace, they are spoiled and my life. When in town for supplies I volunteer at several different non profit pet rescues and shelters, this also plugs my cats in to a wealth of expertise and a network of caring people.

Travel

We travel less per month than most people drive in a week, often times moving less than 150 miles in a given month. The cats and I both enjoy finding a great spot and staying as long as legal/supplies will last for numerous reasons. For one the cats enjoy settling down, their “catio” gets set up, window boxes installed and the younger two get walks twice a day. Second reason is financial/being responsible as possible environmentally. If we don’t need to put mileage on the rig then why do so? Diesel and wear and tear add up quick in today’s crony capitalist society properly functioning democracy. I don’t need to add extra rubber compounds on the side of the road or add more diesel exhaust into the atmosphere just to change scenery more often or get another gram worthy photo…the cost is too great. The third and final reason is I like thoroughly exploring an area not just staying for a night or two. Hiking, taking photos, relaxing and just getting a vibe for an area.

Volunteering and Pet Sitting

I volunteer at least 4 days a month at various non profit pet rescues. This has been part of my life the last 2+ decades and being on the road doesn’t mean the end of volunteering. I used to foster, hundreds of animals over the years from amputee’s to a bottle fed litter of 11 puppies. I rarely foster now due to space, on occasion I take bottle babies or a medically sensitive animal as I have the time to dedicate to them.

Pet Sitting is something I love to do, it scratches that foster itch that I lack now that I am on the road. I don’t do short sits or drop in visits as I often have to travel a distance for the jobs so I only take long term sits which gives me an opportunity to visit a new area. I hate sleeping in strangers homes and I am sure folks don’t like the idea of strangers sleeping in their homes either so being self contained is a huge benefit to me as well as the client.
